Construction to Begin on Dominion Energy Offshore Wind Project
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Dominion Energy's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project is the first offshore wind initiative in the mid-Atlantic.
Construction for the project is expected to begin on July 1. The project will bring an important new source of renewable energy to Virginia customers.
The activity marks the first construction work on the two 6-megawatt wind turbines, which will power 3,000 homes at peak. Dominion Energy anticipates $1.1 billion in offshore wind investments through 2023.
Dominion Energy anticipates the two turbines should be in operation by late 2020.
It would be only the second offshore wind project in the nation and the first owned by an electric utility company. Along with clean energy, it will provide Dominion Energy valuable experience in managing offshore wind resources.
