Southport, N.C. – The OSW4NC coalition will present visualizations of the Wilmington East Offshore Wind Plan on Friday, January 28th from 9:00am to 1:00pm in the Great Hall of the Southport Community Center.
These visualizations were commissioned by the Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) in order to provide resources and clarity for local stakeholder groups in proximity to the Wilmington East lease area. Members of the OSW4NC Coalition will be present to facilitate this event, answer questions, and receive feedback from stakeholders.
SEWC President Katharine Kollins issued the following statement about the Wilmington East Offshore Wind Plan Visualizations:
“Responsible offshore wind development is a necessary component to the clean energy future of North Carolina. It is important that stakeholders in Brunswick and New Hanover Counties have the opportunity to see the Wilmington East Offshore Wind Visualizations in person in order to answer questions about visual impacts. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with coastal communities to ensure they have a seat at the table as this once-in-a-generation economic and clean energy opportunity takes shape."
High-resolution imagery for this project was sourced from the Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management (BOEM) and includes three locations in Brunswick County, NC (Bald Head Island, Oak Island, and Holden Beach). The visualizations were produced by UNASYS, a UK-based company that specializes in large-scale energy sector processes, and funded by the UK government.
Visualizations, as well an informational packet, will be made available on the SEWC website at 1:00pm following the conclusion of Friday’s open house event. A formal report from UNASYS will be made available on the SEWC website next week.
Please include the following viewing instructions in all publications: “The simulation is properly printed on an 11" X 17" sheet at actual size. If viewed on a computer monitor, use the highest screen resolution. The simulated image is at the proper perspective when viewed at 23.5" from the eye, or at a distance of approximately twice the image height.”
