Raleigh, N.C. – The Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) issued the following statement after the Biden-Harris Administration’s announcement of a national target for offshore wind development, that includes emphasis on expedited leasing, a domestic supply chain, and infrastructure development.

"SEWC applauds the Biden Administration’s commitment to 30-gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030, a goal that will strengthen the country’s domestic energy production, create 83,000 American jobs, and spur economic development and infrastructure investments across the country.

We are especially excited to prioritize the leasing of existing wind energy areas off the coast of North Carolina, as well as the identification of new leasing areas in Virginia, North Carolina, and Louisiana. As the country moves forward in developing this $140 billion industry, the region is well positioned to take advantage of the Biden Administration’s investment in port infrastructure and supply chain, with multiple Southeast states serving as premiere locations for manufacturing and shipbuilding.

As the U.S. moves forward to a cleaner future, the Southeast stands ready to take on the next chapter in domestic energy production, infrastructure development, and job creation through offshore wind." Katharine Kollins, SEWC President
