POSITION: Communications and Graphic Design Intern
LOCATION: Remote (candidates must be located in the Southeastern United States)
DURATION: 6 months to 1 year (if this internship is being completed for course credit, it can be completed in a shorter time period)
COMPANY: Southeastern Wind Coalition The Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) is a non-profit coalition of industry, academia, partner NGOs, government, and utilities working to advance the land-based and offshore wind industry in the Southeastern U.S. We take a business-minded and economically focused approach to building the case for wind energy, including the wind supply chain. SEWC regularly convenes stakeholders across our 11-state footprint and leads or participates in strategically important initiatives and discussions to bring wind to the region. POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Communications and Graphic Design Intern to join our team remotely. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, graphic design, and communications strategies within the nonprofit sector, specifically focused on wind energy. The intern is able to create their own schedule with flexible hours, but must be partly available during standard business hours (9am-5pm Eastern time). A time commitment of 10 hours per week is required, with the ability to work up to 15 hours if necessary.
The hourly rate for this position is $15/hr.
INTERNSHIP DUTIES:
The intern will primarily focus on social media management. Responsibilities include:
Creating digital content via Canva, Vimeo, YouTube, and other platforms in alignment with SEWC branding and voice
Assisting with writing social media copy and posting content for SEWC platforms using Hootsuite
Updating social media posting calendar
Boosting social media content to reach target audiences
Building out existing social media communications handbook
Monitoring and reporting on social media performance
Assisting with general communications and/or programmatic initiatives, including but not limited to newsletters, messaging toolkits, and ad hoc materials
Keeping the website up to date by posting press releases, updating public resources, monitoring website function, and more
Supporting the creation and formatting of the Annual Report
Attending weekly staff calls
Supporting the development and release of monthly & quarterly newsletters
Publishing digital ads through Meta Business Suite and Google Ads services
Monitoring social media dashboards and creating detailed monthly reports on social media KPI analytics
Delivering a verbal presentation on the KPI report every month during staff calls
Conducting research to inform content and communications strategy
Utilizing a project management tool, Asana, our organizational project management tool, to effectively manage a variety of projects
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
The internship is open to current students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communication studies, marketing, public relations, or related fields or recent graduates with a relevant degree in these fields
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram)
Experience using content development tools such as Canva and YouTube
Ability to manage and maintain social media resources, such as Hootsuite or SproutSocial
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience writing short form content, such as blogs
Proficient technical skills, including using the G-Suite workspace
Basic analytical and problem-solving skills, including data analysis and visualization
Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in a remote environment
Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and follow-through on tasks
Self-starter mentality, demonstrating initiative on projects and daily tasks
Strong time management and organizational skills
Interest in clean energy, environmental, or mission-driven work
Ability to work and adapt in a fast moving remote environment
