Social Media and Communications Intern 

LOCATION: Remote (preference is given to candidates based within SEWC’s 11-state footprint)

DURATION: 6 months to 1 year (if this internship is being completed for course credit, it can be completed in a shorter time period)

The Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) is a nonprofit coalition of industry, academia, partner NGOs, government, and utilities working to advance the land-based and offshore wind industry in the Southeastern U.S. We take a business-minded and economically focused approach to building the case for wind energy, including the wind supply chain. SEWC regularly convenes stakeholders across our 11-state footprint and leads or participates in strategically important initiatives and discussions to bring wind to the region. POSITION OVERVIEW: 

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Social Media and Communications Intern to join our team remotely. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, and communications strategies within the nonprofit sector, specifically focused on wind energy. The intern is able to create their own schedule with flexible hours, but must be partly available during standard business hours (9:00 AM-5:00 PM Eastern Time). A commitment of 10 hours per week is required, with the opportunity to work up to 15 hours per week as needed.

The hourly rate for this position is $15 per hour.

INTERNSHIP DUTIES: 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Expanding and maintaining the existing social media communications handbook 

  • Assisting with writing social media copy and posting content for SEWC platforms

  • Managing social media posting calendar 

  • Boosting social media content to reach target audiences, publishing digital ads through Meta Business Suite and Google Ads services

  • Assisting with content creation via Canva, Vimeo, and other platforms 

  • Monitoring social media dashboards and creating detailed monthly reports on social media KPIs

  • Assisting with general communications and/or programmatic initiatives, including but not limited to newsletters, messaging toolkits, and ad hoc materials  

  • Keeping the website up to date by posting press releases, updating public resources, monitoring website functionality, and more

  • Supporting the creation and formatting of the Annual Report

  • Attending weekly staff calls

  • Delivering a verbal presentation on the KPI report every month during staff calls

  • Supporting the development and release of monthly and quarterly newsletters

  • Conducting research to inform content and communications strategy

  • Utilizing Asana, our organizational project management tool, to effectively manage a variety of projects

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

The internship is open to current students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communication studies, marketing, public relations, or related fields or recent graduates with a relevant degree in these fields 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Familiarity with social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram)

  • Ability to manage and maintain social media resources

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience writing short form content, such as social media posts and blog content

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and other workplace technology tools

  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills, including data analysis and visualization

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in a remote environment

  • Experience using content development tools such as Canva and YouTube

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently and follow-through on tasks

  • A self-starter who demonstrates initiative on projects and daily tasks

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Interest in clean energy, environmental, or mission-driven work

  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast-moving remote environment
